1992 Marriage Addendum to the "Technical Appendix" of Vital Statistics of the United States, 1988, Volume III--Marriage and Divorce REGISTRATION AREAS Marriages in the marriage-registration area (MRA) sample are representative of 75 percent of all marriages registered in the United States in 1992. STANDARD CERTIFICATES A third revision of the standard certificate was recommended to the States for use beginning January 1, 1989. On the marriage certificate, the only significant change was that the item requesting the type of ceremony (religious or civil) was deleted. In early 1989, most States implemented revised certificates that closely resembled the standard. However, some States continued to use previous versions or they revised their certificates but left out items included on the standard. In 1992, all States reported the State of residence of the bride and groom and the date of the marriage. For the remaining items, see table A for a listing of the States which reported each item. In 1992, NCHS did not use information from the following items on the marriage certificate: birthplace of bride/groom, date last marriage ended--bride/groom, and education of bride/groom. SAMPLING PROCEDURES About 10 percent of all marriages in the MRA were in the marriage sample for 1992. See table B for the sample number, sampling rate, and weighted estimate for every MRA State. maradd92.txt - pg. 1 States Reporting Certain Items on Marriage Certificates, 1992 ______________________________________________________________________________ | Date of | Age | Previous |Number of | Race of | Birth of | of | Marital |Marriage | Husband/ Area |Husband/Wife|Husband/Wife| Status |for Husband| Wife ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Alabama | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Alaska | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ California | X | | X | X | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Colorado | X | | X | | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Connecticut | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Delaware | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Dist. of Columbia | | X | X | X | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Florida | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Georgia | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Hawaii | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Idaho | | X | X | | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Illinois | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Indiana | | X | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Iowa | X | | | | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Kansas | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Kentucky | | X | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Louisiana | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Maine | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Maryland | | X | X | | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Massachusetts | X | | X | X | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Michigan | X | | | X | ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Minnesota | | X | | | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ Mississippi | X | | X | X | X ___________________|____________|____________|__________|___________|_________ maradd92.txt -
